Who We Are

Thornhill Group, Inc. (TGI) is a premier hydrogeologic and water resources consulting firm based out of central Texas. We have been in operation since 1996, and have a deserved reputation of providing technically excellent and professionally competent advice and counsel on all matters water related. The majority of our work comes from direct referrals, and there is a reason why; we strive to do the utmost possible for our clients and provide the answers they are looking for. Michael R. Thornhill

Mike Thornhill, a Professional Geoscientist licensed by the State of Texas with more than 30 years of experience, has provided professional consulting services for projects across the entire mid-Southern United States, including all of the major and most of the minor aquifers of Texas. Since establishing Thornhill Group more than 20 years ago, Mike has conducted and supervised investigations for developing ground-water supplies ranging from less than five (5) to more than 100 MGD, assisted numerous project engineers in well and well field design, construction, or rehabiliation, and been an integral member of the state’s water planning process. He has conducted or directed well siting and well field construction and installation projects for more than 60 public water supply wells, including brackish supply and injection of public water supply system injectate to subsurface storage reservoirs. Clients include municipalities, groundwater conservation districts (GCDs), municipal utility districts (MUDs), law firms, mines and quarries, agricultural operations, engineering firms, developers, heavy industries, bottled water companies, water marketers, and private landowners.


During his career, Mike has been a key player in some of the most high-profile ground water projects in the state of Texas, including serving as Ozarka Natural Spring Water's ground-water expert witness in Sipriano v. Ozarka Natural Spring Water before the Texas Supreme Court in 1998. In addition to being an expert in the science of ground water, he is highly regarded and respected for his extensive knowledge and understanding of water rights and regulatory conditions and their implications in solving local and regional water supply needs and issues.
